Better Taste: With or Without Sugar?

If we don't use sugar, the coffee will be better?... or maybe we need a pinch of it?

Many people in the world, perhaps even yourself, have been involved in the big question of "Coffee with or without sugar?". Many say that without sugar the taste is more appreciated and others see merely unreasonable consuming it pure. If we do not use sugar, the coffee will be better?... or maybe we need a pinch of it?

Say yes to sugar?

We know many people who argue that this beverage should be taken without sugar because adding the sweet ingredient alters the taste of the drink and always prefer to enjoy a cup of coffee with its characteristic bitter taste. If we look closely, we can find some cold coffee drinks that within their recipe already contain sweet ingredients and are of great preference for many people, so in this case, the argument of coffee without sugar is lost.

Coffee, taken without sugar, improves attention and the ability to react to situations that demand mental acuity. It helps you make decisions faster, you get less confused, and few things escape. That's what caffeine does, and so does sugar alone, because glucose improves brain performance. What we have observed now is that taken together, putting sugar to the above generates a clear improvement in the retention of memorized data.

More important than the problem of sugar or not, is to know how to find the coffee of our preference; that is to identify the benefits of this wonderful grain and which varies depending on the place of harvest, type of grain, the method of cultivation and kind of roasting.

Sweetened or not, sharing and enjoying it is the important thing. And now that we concluded that putting sugar or not in our beverage only depends on the tastes of each person, we bring you extra information about our beloved coffee that would be great to know:

Very rich in antioxidants

Thanks to the presence of antioxidants, it protects us against diseases in which oxidative stress of the cells is involved, as is the case of neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. In fact, due to its antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content, several scientific studies indicate that coffee could come to be considered as a functional food.

Useful to activate the body and wake up

It is a natural drink that helps to enable and elevate alertness and is helpful to improve concentration for longer. For these reasons, it becomes an ideal beverage to consume in the morning, reducing drowsiness and increasing our vigilance during a couple of hours.

Here at Coffland Corp, our goal is to always have the best information, tips, and tricks for you regarding this enjoyable beverage. Do not miss any of our blogs and make sure to follow us on our social media accounts!

Perhaps only a pinch of sugar can do it better.

Coffee takes sleep away: is this true or false?

Every time we notice the drowsiness over, our first solution is to make or buy a cup off coffee. Is it a myth? Is it a reality? Does it take your sleep away?
Sometimes, we need to have our body and mind active; is coffee the best option to accomplish that? Caffeine is a natural substance found in coffee, tea and also in cocoa seeds. Drinking coffee when we are sleepy has become the routine of many. But does it help us to be active? This time we were researching for you, all the truth about coffee and its power to get rid of sleep.
If sleep is what you want… don’t drink too much coffee!
Until now it wasn’t known why caffeine disrupts sleep, but many studies about it (the latest at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Medical Research Council of Cambridge in England), have discovered that caffeine affects to our dream and delays the biological clock between 30 and 40 minutes. So all this seems to be true that coffee helps keep us awake. To understand the full effect of caffeine on our biological clock, you need to read the results of these studies.

The team of scientists from Colorado, which today publishes its results in the journal Science Translational Medicine, states: "In a 49-day long, with subject study, we found that a caffeine dose to that in a double espresso 3 hours before usual bedtime induced to a 40-minute phase delay of the circadian melatonin rhythm in humans This magnitude of delay was nearly half of the magnitude of the phase-delaying response induced by exposure to 3 hours of evening bright light that began at usual bedtime."

Circadian time: what is it?

This internal clock of humans makes a function through a biochemical mechanism that tunes the organism with the cycles of day and night. This clock is in charge of notifying the body when it is convenient to be ready to sleep or to make the effort of the day work.

The researchers examined the cells and found that caffeine affected circadian time by adenosine receptors that caused changes in cell chemistries, causing the body to become alert, blocking its ability to regulate fatigue both physically and intellectually, thus increasing the capacity for effort physical and mental.

Then now that you know...

Caffeine acts like that disco door big bouncer who doesn’t want to let adenosines "enter": Until it leaves, there is no way to sleep. Each person has a different response to caffeine, amounts as small as 250 milligrams can stimulate some people excessively, and others who consume it on a daily basis develop more tolerance.

Here at Coffland Corp, we make sure you know everything about coffee! This time we wanted the myth to be discovered and... it's true! Coffee has a superpower to keep you awake! Make sure to check out our social media profiles to contact us and keep learning with us all about our beloved beverage.

How to make a perfect coffee

This time we bring you the best ways and tips so you can make a perfect coffee by yourself.
Coffee is an ancient beverage that has managed to maintain itself as one of the infusions that cause great pleasure due to its aroma, flavor, and vitality. There are as many tricks to make coffee as people, and it is difficult to get two equal coffee machines. Every person likes to drink it in a specific way: espresso, short, long, with milk or black. This time, we bring you the best tips so you can make a perfect brew by yourself.

Get good ingredients

The first step is to choose the right water. It is the base of the infusion and should be the best possible quality; lousy water can spoil any preparation. Choose mineral water as much as possible, or at least not hard water. It must not present strange odors; it must be completely transparent and better of weak mineralization. In manual processes, it is recommended to drain the water just before boiling.

Coffee beans represent the second step. They are a delicate issue because they begin to lose properties the more processed they are. That is why it is convenient to buy coffee beans to grind at home, either with an automatic coffee machine or with a grinder: if it's manual, much better, although using a good electric grinder will always be better than buying ground coffee. They should also be well preserved; never buy coffee that has been exposed to air or light, because although it has not been ground, external agents also affect its quality.

Water-coffee ratio

Here depends a little on the particular tastes, but it is not a proportion that should be left to chance. The amount of coffee for each infusion is equally essential. If the portion of water is high, the drink will be lighter, with less body and aroma. To taste a soft beverage, one tablespoon of coffee (7 grams) per well of water (100 milliliters) should be used. If you prefer it a stronger, a little more of coffee should be used. The proportion will depend on each palate to discover the exact amount.

On time!

The maximum freshness is also essential at the time of tasting the drink. Without burning us, of course, but always freshly made. At the moment when it cools, we will not be able to appreciate the coffee at its maximum point. There is an exception to this rule: when we prepare cold or iced coffee.

As important as the temperature of infusion is the service, as it happens with food. It is advisable to prepare only what is going to be taken since coffee that is either rested or reheated loses its properties, let alone its flavor. If it is necessary to keep it for a few moments, it will be better in a thermos.

One last tip…

Keep the coffee in a tightly closed container and store it in a cool, dry place. Do not fall into excessive obsessions; the important thing is to enjoy. And you? How do you drink coffee? Do you have a particular trick or custom when it comes to preparing your coffee? We hope that these tips will help you with your coffee routine so that you can finally brew that perfect coffee that you deserve from the comfort of your home.

At Coffland Corp, we believe that a perfect coffee is the sum of its parts: ideal procedure along with great ingredients. That’s why we make sure to provide our customers with the best product possible for their brews! We work with exclusive farmers to bring you the result of selected crops, right to your business. Here Is What You Should Do with Your Coffee Grounds

Learn what to do with coffee grounds
The used coffee still has a lot of qualities that can be beneficial in many ways.

Whether you have a coffee shop or the habit to drink coffee every day at home, you surely have coffee ground leftovers, and you just discard them. But considering the tumultuous times the world is living due to climate change, somehow nature is demanding us to be more conscious and use what it gave us in a wisely manner.

The thing is that coffee is such a precious natural product! Unlike other foods, you can recycle it in many useful ways that certainly can help you reduce carbon footprints. After reading this article, you will never want to throw away your coffee grounds in the mornings! Here you have a list of what you can do with your leftovers for a complete range of household tasks.

Exterminate Fleas from Your Pet

When showering your dog or cat, rub some coffee grounds after adding shampoo. This tip will help you protect their fur and the skin to be free of ticks and fleas.

Compost it for Later

With the rest of your organic food leftover, like carbon boards,  used kitchen paper and the like, coffee grounds are a great addition to your compost. Studies have shown it produces more earthworms due to the increase in the nutrient content. Also, you can add them directly to your plants!

Absorb Odors

A cup of used coffee grounds in the refrigerator and freezer will absorb food odors. Place it in the back of the fridge and change it every two weeks. And of course, after you remove smelly old grounds, you can compost them, meaning two uses!

Unblock the Sink

Pour the grounds into the sink if your drains are clogged, then add liquid soap and a kettle of boiling water. It works perfectly! You can use it for your bathroom shower drainage too!

Clean Out the Fireplace

Gently scatter old used coffee grounds over the pile of ashes to weight them down; this will prevent clouds of smoke when sweeping out.

Exfoliate Skin

This tip is probably the most known form of recycling coffee grounds. Many women use them as an inexpensive exfoliant by mixing a spoon of the leftovers with a few drops of olive oil. As a plus, it can also wake up the face by reducing puffiness and tightening skin and getting rid of dark circles under the eyes.

Caffeinated Soap

Combine used or old soaps from the hotels you have visited with you coffee leftovers. It will scrub your dead skin properly and disappear unwanted odors. You can add essential oils. As a result, it can be your coffee shop bathroom soap or something you can give to your loved ones as a gift. But if you think it’s not enough, try making coffee candles instead.

Remove Smells from Hands

Also, you can place some coffee grounds on your counter for removing odors from your hands when cooking, especially after chopping garlic, onions, and other smelly things.

Cellulite Treatment

Coffee grounds can also release nutrients, and caffeine helps the blood system to flow efficiently. These are the reasons why leftovers are used as a cellulite treatment. After scrubbing, you must wait a few minutes before rinsing it off. Many women said that by doing this every day for two weeks, they notice a significant improvement.

Change the Color of Your Flowers

According to studies, the coffee grounds reduce the pH level and will give you brighter flower colors. Pour them into the pot now and then you will see the magic!

Dye Paper for Crafts

Add a little bit of water to your paper, and you can get a sepia-toned result. This idea is perfect for crafts, mainly to have a unique alternative. Think of this option if you want a personalized menu for your business. Can you imagine how original it will be?

The Ancient Ritual of Ethiopian Coffee Brewing

Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony
In this African nation, the ritual we know as brewing has other cultural aspects.

Coffee has been flowing over the cups over decades. And many countries claim to have unlocked the flavor of these beans. But the reality is that most experts agree on something: trailing back coffee, we can find its birthplace in the heart of Africa. More precisely, in Ethiopia. And today, you’ll know how this amazing culture marveled the world with these valuable beans. More than that: you’ll explore how the coffee brewing has become a tradition among Ethiopians. Get into the #CoffeeHistory with Coffland Corp!

Why Ethiopia?

If you’re a coffee lover, then you surely know that Ethiopian coffee it’s one of the best out there. And there’s a reason for that. Over its myths, a careful process ensures that each cup you get has the right amount of flavor. In fact, the most consumed strain of coffee (arabica) originated in this land, and while its farming has spread out to other latitudes, the most sought-after arabica seeds are Ethiopian.

The myth says that the origin of coffee began with goats. Yes, that’s right, you have to thank these animals for your brew! Legend says that a farmer saw his goats get energized after eating a certain fruit. He got curious and tried them himself, roasting them, and bam! Coffee was born. Although it has been experiencing interesting changes over and over since its discovery, goats involved or not, the root cause of the modern product can be found in Ethiopia. We’ve all been loving it ever since!

Coffee Ritual in Ethiopia

But what makes drinking coffee in Ethiopia an experience for coffee connoisseurs it’s the craft behind every single cup. Its native tribes and citizens have kept the tradition alive, creating a land of cultural enrichment behind the flavorful Ethiopian coffee. There’s a strong element of veneration and pride in this ceremony, and it’s not a simple ceremony, it can take up to two hours, so be aware that you’re in for the long run towards great flavors with it.

The traditional ceremony, Buna, it’s about union and peace. Families use it to resolve problems, to ask for marriage, and other important occasions in people’s lives. The first part is the roasting: ceremonially dressed, the woman in charge showcases the roast to its patrons. They will debate and consider the purity and quality of the beans; then it’s ground and infused.

This is done in a Jebena. This instrument, a clay container that creates the first cup of coffee: Abol. It’s the most powerful amongst all three. Most qualities of coffee can be perceived through this, and it’s one of the fundamentals of its consumption that represents the cause of the ceremony. It invites to resolve it, through dialogue and awareness of other people’s minds and feelings. It's also about respect for all those, but especially on behalf of the honored party.

Tona is the second cup, and it often comes with a salty appetizer, like seeds A bit diluted with water, represents communication and finding ways of solving the problem. Being a familiar dispute or a marriage request, this cup represents conversation. And just until the solution arises, with an agreement of all parts involved, is when you can really get the third cup. This means that as long as there’s not a solution, the woman in charge will not start to prepare the next step.

Baraka, it’s the third and final cup. It represents the resolution and the general agreement of all parties involved. It’s a softer coffee cup and represents joy and unity. It’s fundamentally a finalization of the issue and a clear showcase of community that characterizes Ethiopian communities. This ceremony is considered sacred, so be grateful and accepting when an Ethiopian invites you to it, as it’s equal to acceptance and welcoming you into their circle.

As you can see, coffee is not something that’s just prepared in a couple of minutes. Some cultures consider it part of their identity and identify with this event to showcase their heritage. Do you know some other ceremonies that are as profound as this when it comes to coffee? Let us know in the comments or share on social media using the #CofflandSocial hashtag!

How much caffeine does your coffee have?

Caffeine in coffee
The method of preparation changes the levels of caffeine that each cup contains.

We all love to get a punch of caffeine during your daily routine. In fact, there’s a good chance that by now, you’ve had your daily dose of electric energy within a cup of brew. But do you know how much caffeine you have per cup? While here’s a standard number going around (95grs) per cup, the reality is that depending on the kind of coffee you pick, the caffeine levels will vary immensely. So, do you really want to know how much you’re getting per day? Let’s break it down for you!

What makes caffeine levels vary?

This is a good question, coffee lover. It’s important that you know that every ounce of coffee you drink, regardless of the presentation, has been through a different process. It’s fundamental that you comprehend this, as the same espresso shot you get in one store, can contain different levels of caffeine than one that you get on the store on the other corner.

  • But, what affects them? Here’s a list of factors.
  • Roasting time.
  • Grind size.
  • Types of beans.
  • Brewing methods.

As you can see, all of these factors affect your caffeine levels. But studies have shown that a distinctive amount can be found, and it’s the number that’s used to define the average levels. But now, let’s break down how much caffeine you can find in your cups of coffee.

Espresso

A normal cup of espresso contains about 95gr of caffeine. And while this might not seem relevant, you need to understand that this amount of this powerful neurostimulant it's an instant jump into your system. You need to revisit how many cups of coffee you get per day if what you prefer is this.

Decaffeinated

Your average decaf contains a range from 3 to 15gr of caffeine per cup. Remember that this huge variation depends on the decaffeinating methods your preferred brew pics. It’s important that you know that while this contains small levels of neurostimulant components, most of the time it keeps the other beneficial properties of regular coffee.

Lattes and related beverages

Lattes contain milk, and while this dilutes coffee, it doesn’t increase the overall caffeine levels in the cups. In fact, it makes them just slightly lower. Your average latte contains up to 65gr of caffeine, while mochaccinos and cappuccinos contain slightly higher levels of caffeine. It’s important that you consider these drinks as softer versions of espressos, but equally powerful when it comes to waking you up.

Traditional brew
The method of this brew is what most homes do: boil water and pour it over ground beans. This, believe it or not, generates more caffeine than any other method in the list: up to 140gr per serving! This means that if you like to drink it this way, you need to be wary as you can consume a large amount of caffeine per day.

Did you check how much caffeine you drink per day? Then it’s time for you to do it! Here at Coffland Corp, we believe that coffee must be an incredible experience. Then we offer you alternatives to build your brand from scratch, making a unique flavor for you and all your clients!
