Color coffee trend.
Butterfly pea flower tea is a trendy ingredient in Southeast Asia.

Asian coffee lovers are going crazy over a new trend: color-changing cold brew coffee. Who said coffee always have to be brown? Well, apparently it can also be blue and purple! If you are a business owner in this industry, you must know that appearance is as important as flavor. It is one of the reasons for making a good quality product.

At Coffland Corp, we love to teach you about the new ways coffee is being made. But, of course, only if they are superb. For this matter, the way this distinguished coffee chain created a drink with color is completely natural. Keep reading to feel inspired!

How color-changing cold coffee is brewed

The color-changing cold brew coffee is served in a large glass with a purple pop of color on the bottom, then a layer of white, to end up with some regular brown coffee on top. As a result, you a have a rainbow cold beverage made with a blue butterfly pea flower tea and lemonade.

For this to happen, the consumer must stir the drink with a straw, and like if it was magic, the drink changes color in a waving rhythm. The reactions are only possible if the tea is mixed with lemonade. As surprising as it sounds, it also became a sensation thanks how good lemonade and espresso taste together.

Nevertheless, this combination of flavors is popular in some cities in the U.S, especially in New York City and Brooklyn. It has been around since 2016, but the color changing property is a fresh twist to the world of coffee making. Throughout Southeast Asia, butterfly pea flower tea is currently a popular ingredient. It is a small, blue, and has terrific pigmentation qualities.

If you are a business owner and you are trying to experiment with contemporary drinks, you should do some research on local and natural ingredients. In Asia, for example, this flower has been used for centuries as a caffeine-free herbal beverage, as a plant-based food ingredient, and as a clothing dyer. The butterfly pea flower is a popular ingredient amongst cocktail mixologists and to create visual effects in arts.

Even though the plant is naturally blue, the reaction to acid, for example on the lemonade, turns it purple. The looks of the color-changing cold brew coffee and the way it tastes is exclusive. It is only available in just eleven places in the world.

As you may be aware of, coffee has some health benefits,  and now we know butterfly pea flower tea has many antioxidants and can protect your skin against premature aging. This benefits can be a solid selling point, by the way!

How to Start Writing Your Coffee Shop's Business Plan

Having a coffee business plan.
Having your coffee shop business plan available to easily refer to, will help you to keep on track.

At Coffland Corp, we love to encourage you to know more about the amazing world of coffee as much as inspire you to create your own business in this industry. We bet one of your dreams for this new year is to become an entrepreneur. If that is your case, we have created this article to teach you how to start writing your coffee shop’s business plan!

But if you are already the owner of a coffee business, and have some lack of orientation, our tips would also help you a lot!

There is no limit when it comes to writing length if it is cohesive. Remember that what you put in your business plan can be submitted to lenders or investors for debt or equity financing. Try to make solid research and analysis in a concise form, because most lenders do not have the time to read a very extended document.

We know it can be difficult to start writing, but remember that having a coffee business plan can save a lot of money. You will know how to plan efficiently and manage your coffee shop budget. It also will save you time by forcing you to be more organized. Just imagine dealing with every detail of your business without writing them down! Impossible!

Stages of a coffee shop’s business plan

Executive summary

In this part, you should describe if your coffee business is a café, or a coffee house, for instance. Explain in detail about the products you offer and its varieties, if there is any. Include the location and expansion. And because it is a summary, you can write about your objectives, how you can stand out of your competition, and the possible development of its finances.

Mission

A coffee shop is now one part of the routine in the ideal American life. Before explaining about your services in the mission, describe how you want your clients to feel when walking into your place. Explain what that experience is all about, and your work ethic process to make it happen.

Objectives

Although it is quite self-explanatory, in the objectives you must put in order all your ideas. Your coffee business will definitely grow if you divide your priorities in services, product quality, and infrastructure. Break down these three subjects and create a step-by-step plan!

The competition

You need to be clear about to who you are competing with in the same field. Describe your primary business competitors by doing a general survey. With that information, you should write down the three most common complaints about the existing competition in the area and how you can please that demand.

What makes it unique

To stand out is difficult when frankly everything seems to have been invented now. Again, try your best to make your coffee shop special. You can twist traditional coffee names, serve a private label coffee, offer discount services, live shows and more.

Market analysis

Establish what your clientele profiles are. Once you know your niche, it will be so much easier to make the right decisions, especially if you want to save some money. For this, you may have to do more research to learn how to study your market.

Sales and promotion plan

Yes, there are probably too many coffee businesses around, and you were not aware of this. In this section, you have to plan how you will sell and promote your products. First, think about the conventional ways to do it, and then, try to break the mold a little. When it comes to coffee, you want to sell, experience, and promote a lifestyle. That is what drinking coffee is all about!

Pricing strategy

If your business is starting, you should do some research on how to tabulate your prices. Please do not follow any guessings you might have. Make a record of your short and long-term assets, think about your budget and consider an Economy Pricing or maybe a Price Skimming.

Management plan

Now, when it comes to management, it is all about your functions as a business owner, the way you want the services system to work, and your employees’ tasks. Having said that, describe who is in charge of what, their limitations, and even how their income can be. You can make departments if it makes the system easier.

Other tips

  • Include photos, infographic, interior design ideas.
  • Use graphics for financial information.
  • Design a temple in which you are going to maintain a record of your profits, losses, and expenses.
  • Make a list of potential product providers.
  • An environmental friendly policy can assure you more recognition.

Once you have everything figured out, please contact us at Coffland Corp. We are specialty coffee providers with a distinguished fair trade policy. Also, if you want to stand out from your competition, we can work together to create a unique private label coffee. Sustainable Coffee Cups You Can Sell to Your Clients!

Recyclable coffee cups
Most cups used in coffee chains aren’t recyclable.

Going green is not just a trend, it’s a concept that is here to stay and for the right reasons. As a business owner, applying sustainable policies is going to be one of your smartest decisions. You would gain loyal customers if you get rid off disposable cups and replace them with sustainable ones.

Although there is the inconvenient tendency of grabbing your coffee and leaving the shop quickly, these days people are more conscious. They know that the disposable ones end up polluting our oceans and forests.  If you deeply think about it, that type of client can be a great niche for your business, if you are still figuring that out!

Yes, you probably believe that your cups are made out of paper, but the fact is that the paper is covered with a film of plastic that stops it from getting soggy and therefore, being biodegradable. This is the main reason why it results in tonnes of waste every year!

According to Carbon Rally, in the U.S, single-use cups that are thrown away each year make up for an estimated of 14.4 million units. That amount adds up about 3.6 million pounds of CO2 emissions annually.

If these matters concern you, thankfully there are ways you can help stop earth's pollution. Keep reading to know more about sustainable cups and the business strategies you can use to convince your clients!

Sustainable coffee cups

In the market, there are many sustainable coffee cups options to choose from. And there are two types you can purchase: takeaways and biodegradable cups. We will illustrate for you these two options and show you other tips on how to turn your coffee shop into a green alternative. Please, take notes!

Takeaway cups

Selling reusable cups can turn out as a very profitable idea. They are a simple solution for someone who just wants to take their coffee while running into the office and you can even put your shop's logo on them! If you start looking, there are ones made out of glass, aluminum, and silicone. Just make sure they come in an appropriate size for your coffee machines!

Biodegradable cups

There are also many eco-friendly compostable cups made out of sustainable paper. And you can find that most of them come from 100% renewable resources. This type of material has a compound that will decompose paper as a fertilizer and soil amendment. The options are almost endless, and they are totally worth it!

What about spoons?

Along with changing the cups, you can also replace stirring rods with metallic spoons. After all, these two basically work together, just like the good old days! This change can save you a lot of money. Spoons are nice, durable, classy, and affordable. But remember to add two large containers, one for the dirty ones and the other for the clean spoons that are ready to be used.

How to convince your clients

  • It is all a matter of proper education. You may explain the benefits of this new habit with fun infographics and signs! Give your baristas the same talk, so they know what to answer to any of your client's questions surrounding this subject.
  • Give them a discount if they bring their own cup!
  • They can bring their own mug if they have time for a good talk with friends. Create the perfect atmosphere for that to happen.
  • Create a collecting area for biodegradable cups. Most people do not know what to do with their waste, especially if it is recyclable. This is a good way to make sure the cups are going to be recycled or composted, and a strategy to give your clients a reason to visit and give back the cup they took the other day.

At Coffland Corp, we believe in environmentally friendly techniques to make the coffee drinking experiences as sustainable as they can be. That is why we respect fair trade policies and are specialty coffee providers. Contact us to know more about our services!

The Difference Between Freddo Cappuccino y Freddo Espresso

Freddo Greek coffee.
Frappe coffee has been a symbol of the Greek coffee houses for decades.

You probably already learned everything about Italian coffee. Espresso, cappuccino, and mocha are your favorite ones, but did you know that Greece, Italy’s neighbor, has created some coffee drinks also recognized worldwide? Yes, Greeks conceived the cold brew method of coffee making and called it “Freddo.” These beverages are trendy and gave a necessary twist to the coffee industry.

Freddo is what you can call a classic frappé, which was invented by a Nescafé representative, Dimitrios Vakondios, in 1957. Nevertheless, Freddo is the Italian word for cold, meaning that it really isn't a Greek word. A Freddo coffee has a cold milk-based foam known as aphrogala. In the summer, most people choose to drink greek-styled coffee because of its temperature and smooth texture.

Offering Freddo coffee as an alternative to your business can be very profitable because it is becoming highly popular and you can attract other types of clients. You can also create a special menu for those hot days of the year based on Greek cold coffee!

Freddo Cappuccino and Freddo Espresso

If you are new to this way of coffee making, the most requested ones are Freddo Cappuccino y Freddo Espresso. People would say that they taste the same, but the fact is they don’t. For the espresso, you need double shots of espresso, sugar, ice-cubes and for a cappuccino, you need only fewer shots of espresso and top it with frothed cold milk.

For both drinks, you need an espresso machine and a mixer. If you want to keep it the Greek way, serve them in tall narrow glasses with a straw.

Freddo Cappuccino recipe

  • Add fresh milk or condensed milk and two ice-cubes in a blender and shake until it creates a dense foam.
  • Place one shot of espresso.
  • Add sugar and stir well.
  • Place five iced-cubes in other blender or mixer and add a shot of regular coffee before mixing.
  • Add more sugar or vanilla extract!
  • Serve this second mix in a glass and add the milk foam on top.
  • Make it better with some cinnamon powder and chocolate sprinkles.

Freddo Espresso recipe

  • Make a double espresso cup in a machine and let it cool.
  • Place it in a blender and mix with sugar for about 20 seconds until it gets a lighter color.
  • Add six or seven ice cubes and mix it until it double its size.
  • To serve, add some water and a straw.

Did your mouth start watering? You should try these recipes at your business and update the ones you already have with bolder ingredients. At Coffland Corp, we offer the best specialty coffee to help you find the perfect taste balance in those Freddos of yours. Contact us to know more about our services.

Amazing Details Every Coffee Bar Must Have

Create a coffee bar.
Think about the design, menu, and items to make it a perfect place for your barista to make coffee!

As a business owner in the coffee industry, one of your most defiant challenges is to create the coolest coffee bar or station. Think about the Central Perk cafĂ© in the popular TV series, Friends. How amazing Gunther’s work was. He gave his business a cozy look. Yes, you want your clients to feel at home and feel that they can have a good chat with you and your baristas.

Believe it or not, the atmosphere you manage to have at your coffee bar will make your clients want to stay longer. There are crucial elements of design that can bring everyone’s attention. But among all of the aesthetics, the most important aspect you must check first on your list is to hire a professional barista with a good sense of socialization.

That being said, select your coffee-making essentials, such as coffee machines, coffee beans, grinder, cups, and additional ingredients. Then, give them a new twist and make them look chic! Take notes of these tips to create an amazing coffee bar.

Make it a show

Most people like to see how their coffee is made. When designing a coffee bar, try to locate the barista’s workplace facing your customers. Making coffee is an art these days, and you should please your business clientele with a good show.

Funny signs

Everyone has a motto now. Place some framed quotes and phrases related to coffee, and how perfectly imperfect life is. Your clients not only will feel more understood and laugh, but they will definitely want to take a picture of it and post it on their social media accounts. Here are some ideas:

  • Have a cup of cheer
  • First I drink coffee, then I do things
  • Coffee is a cup of hope in a world full of chaos and mondays
  • Don’t make me use my before-coffee voice
  • Coffee, my hot friend I was telling you about

Decorate with mugs

Coffee mugs come in different sizes, colors, and shapes. The vintage ones are a trend. They are old fashion, but they will give a homey feeling to the spot. You can use them as storage for sugar, for instance, and even to plant some cool cactuses.

Made it crystal clear stocking

It is also trendy to show all the ingredients in crystal clear stockings, especially jars with beautifully roasted beans, those delicate cinnamon or cocoa powders, freshly ground coffee, and a bunch of marshmallows. You can use uniform bottles of honey, maple syrup, and chocolate syrup. And because each one will have the same kind of stocking, remember to add some labels on them.

Rustic menu

Instead of showing your beverage options on a lame piece of paper, try writing it on wood or maybe a blackboard. These days, there is nothing fancier than using different kinds of texture in your menu decorations. You can also write them down on a glass, like if it was a frame or a window.

Hide some stuff

Install some drawers to hide those unattractive implements used by your baristas. A tidy up space is always better, especially if you want your clients to focus on the artsy way their coffee is being made, instead of how messy the coffee bar is. Please, do not make it look like a messy kitchen! Think about functionality and aesthetics. Cabinets can do the trick!

Add plants

Plants will add a warming homey feeling. The ones that will not die if you forget about them or won’t be an obstacle in the process of coffee making, they have to be short and wasteless, such as cactuses, jades, air plants, aloe vera, and succulents.

If you think there is something on this list missing, please comment down below! At Coffland Corp, we love to read what you have to say about the entrepreneurship journey in the coffee industry. Develop Your Coffee Palate With These Simple Tips

Train your palate for coffee tastings.
What can you do to recognize more easily the different acids present in coffee?

If you ended up on our blog, you are one among many who wants to taste coffee like a professional barista. Imagine having such a fancy palate you can find drinking coffee even more enjoyable! If you really wish to become an expert, do not waste your time! As we age, we have fewer taste buds on our tongue, and our gustation becomes less sensitive as the nerves that send taste signals to the brain wear out over time.

The moment is now! Also, you should start by learning new vocabulary to describe different flavors and textures. Developing a good coffee palate is a matter of practice and attention. You can do it at home with friends and family if they want to join, or try to sign up for classes in coffee bars and barista schools. That being said, if you are a coffee business owner, this is a good strategy to gain some extra money and have more loyal clients.

Before starting you have to change your mindset: coffee does not taste just like coffee. To train your palate, you do not have to drink coffee every hour. Exercises to taste more flavors are way more easy and entertained than that.

Here is what you can do to add more depth into the process of refining your palate:

  • Taste food or aromatic items: as long as they are related to coffee, they all count. Honeydew, vanilla, dark chocolate, apple, and peanut butter are our favorites. Savor them together and individually. Then describe the difference and uniqueness of each one. Do it a few times a week.
  • Smell aromas: Your mom will probably tell you smelling food is just bad manners, but if you want to be a coffee connoisseur, not that much. Smell all kinds of flavor, including the spicy ones, and pass their aromas to your tongue. Identify as many characteristics as possible.
  • Do some journaling: write down every change you have noticed in the past weeks and add all the descriptions of flavors and aromas you came across with. Write about each cup of coffee you tried.
  • Plain dark: try coffee without sugar or any additional ingredients, because they can affect flavors and aromas. For each time, choose a cup with different brewing techniques
  • Try different temperatures: coffee does not taste the same when hot or cold. By cooling down your cup, the flavor becomes more intense. But when is hot enough you can challenge yourself to find the taste layers apparently missing.
  • Learn about beans: in the coffee world, there are two main types of beans: robusta and arabica. Learn about them and buy some to try them out until you can find their differences in their aromas and taste.

Practice as much as you can! Isn’t it an exciting game? At Coffland Corp we want to help you become the best version of yourself, especially if you are a coffee lover. Contact us if you wish to know more about our services as coffee providers and keep visiting our blog for more content like this one.
