Why Is Everyone Going Crazy About Greenlandic Coffee?

Greenlandic coffee is the Arctic cure for cold weather, and everyone is going crazy about it! This drink it is definitely a trend, but in Greenland is a tradition that is taken very seriously. It is almost like a ritual. Specific portions are required to get the best consistency, so you better do not make any variation to the original recipe because it will lose its esense.


This hot beverage is a boozy kind of coffee, just like Irish, but with a twist and a remarkable story behind every ingredient. The new trendy way to beat the cold consist of a hot concoction containing alcohol, hot coffee, with little whipped cream on top.


If you have a liquor license at your coffee shop and want to attract more clients, you should try to offer Greenlandic coffee by mixing equal parts of whisky and coffee liqueur with hot black coffee. And do not forget the final touch!: a lit ablaze flame with a ladle full of an orange-flavored liqueur. This last effect represents the beautiful Northern lights a natural phenomenon that is visible in Greenland.

What makes Greenlandic coffee special



The boozy drink is served after dinner because there is a tale behind the making. Like a bedtime story. The story comes from Inuit, who are indigenous people of Greenland and citizens of Denmark, but vast majority of them speaks Greenlandic and consider themselves to be of Greenlandic ethnicity. Recipe sum up

  • Add about half a shot of whiskey.
  • Then 20 ml of coffee-flavored liqueur.
  • Mix with 300 ml of dark coffee.
  • Add some whipped cream on top.
  • Do not forget to add 20 ml of orange-flavored liqueur.
  • Set that orange-flavored liqueur on fire with a lighter!

Once it is done, is like having Greenland in a mug.
